Richard M. Port, DDS, MS
Dr. Richard Port - Vernon Hills Orthodontist and Gurnee Orthodontist
Born and raised in Uniontown, Pennsylvania, deep in the heart of coal country, Dr. Richard M. Port grew up in idyllic small town America enjoying all the beautiful Laurel Highlands had to offer. His love of the outdoors, Penn State Nittany Lions and Pittsburgh Steelers remain with him to this day.
Dr. Port is a 1976 graduate of Penn State University, and received his Doctor of Dental Surgery from Northwestern University Dental School in 1980. He received his Master of Science degree and specialty certification in pediatric dentistry at the prestigious Children’s Memorial Hospital and Northwestern in 1982. After several years of private practice, he enrolled at Loyola University School of Dentistry and earned his specialty certification in orthodontics in 1986.

Dr. Port is among a small percentage of dental practitioners worldwide to be a Diplomate of both the American Board of Orthodontics and Pediatric Dentistry. He has taught, lectured, published numerous papers in the field of orthodontics and pediatric dentistry, and most enjoys "the before and after pictures" of orthodontics.
When not hard at work, you’ll find Dr. Port in the kitchen — he’s quite the chef. He is an avid golfer and holds three US patents on a putter calibration and training aid. He is also a devoted family man. His wife of 30 years, Lucy, is a cardiac rehab nurse, and they have two daughters, Lauren and Arielle. They are a very close family and when the girls’ schedules permit, spend as much time together as possible.
