Richard Port, DDS, MS – Vernon Hills Orthodontist and Gurnee Orthodontist

Dr. Richard Port

Born and raised in Uniontown, Pennsylvania, deep in the heart of coal country, Dr. Richard M. Port grew up in idyllic small town America enjoying all the beautiful Laurel Highlands had to offer. His love of the outdoors, Penn State Nittany Lions and Pittsburgh Steelers remain with him to this day.

Dr. Richard Port is a 1976 graduate of Penn State University, and received his Doctor of Dental Surgery from Northwestern University Dental School in 1980. He received his Master of Science degree and specialty certification in pediatric dentistry at the prestigious Children’s Memorial Hospital and Northwestern in 1982. After several years of private practice, with Affiliated Dental Specialists in Pediatric Dentistry in Vernon Hills and Gurnee, he enrolled at Loyola University School of Dentistry and earned his specialty certification in orthodontics in 1986. Upon his return, Dr. Port limited his practice to Orthodontics for Children and Adults.

Dr. Richard Port is among a small percentage of dental practitioners worldwide to be a Diplomate of both the American Board of Orthodontics and Pediatric Dentistry. He has taught, lectured, published numerous papers in the field of Orthodontics and Pediatric Dentistry. He most enjoys the wonderful relationships he has developed over the years and the “before and after” pictures of the smiles on his patients’ faces.

When not hard at work, you’ll find Dr. Port in the kitchen — he’s quite the chef. He is an avid golfer and holds three US patents on a putter calibration and training aid. He is also a devoted family man. His wife of 39 years, Lucy, is a cardiac rehab nurse. They have two daughters, Lauren and her husband Randy along with their daughter Hannah live in New York City and Arielle is closer to home in Chicago. They are a close family and when the girls’ schedules permit, spend as much time together as possible.

Hobbies: Alpine skiing, golf, culinary arts, cycling, and photography.

If I were a kid again I’d: Ski, golf, and barbeque every day.
